Cleanliness Campaign at WLCs on 2nd October
“Going to a school has always been a dream but I got married at a tinder age. After marriage doing household chores was my only job. I couldn’t keep track of the household budget, my children studies and I was fooled by the vendors on a regular basis. With the support of Virmani Education Trust, I learnt how to read and write Hindi and Arithmetic. I am proud of myself today and there is no age limit to study.”- Suman, one of our beneficiaries.”
Our education programs are based on the principle that literacy for these women can occur when they are placed in their comfort zones and into a state of consonance. We, therefore, identify an educated woman in the target area and appoint her as the center instructor for the center to enroll 30 illiterate women of the concerned area. Her Jhuggi/Home serves as a Shiksha Kendra for the beneficiaries. The instructor and the coordinator regularly provide motivation and counseling to these women. They are taught basic Hindi and Arithmetic through Computer Based Functional Literacy Software (developed by TCS).
To create awareness about safety, health, hygiene and environmental issues, Cleanliness Campaigns were organized by the center in-charges and coordinators which motivate the whole community to maintain their personal hygiene as well as environmental hygiene. After cleaning the streets and picking up garbage for proper disposal, the teams organized the awareness rally about community cleanliness. The awareness rallies are periodically conducted at every WLC on 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month.
Different festivals were also celebrated at the centers which strengthens the bond among the WLC team and the beneficiaries. Virmani Education Trust provides a platform where everyone irrespective of caste and religion celebrate all the festivals like Diwali, Eid, Holi, Christmas enthusiastically.
